Why I choose gravel bike over road bike
Ever wondered if it is a good idea to choose a gravel bike over a road bike ? Well it depend on many factor. If you are an avid rider and you are looking on the performance side of the road bike or you are looking to a much more comfortable ride with less compromises.
A gravel bike is a more all around bicycle than the road bike by the fact that it has a wider frame to accept up to 700x42c tire in many cases. A wider tire mean a much more confortable ride without entirely cut on the performance. An other important fact is that nowadays mostly all gravel bike comes with disc brakes. It brake a lot more in rainy or muddy situation or in a huge downhill. Gravel bike is in general more solid and less fragile than a road bike so if you are looking for a great, fast way to commute to work or to explore more back country terrain, you should check it out seriously. My personal choice was a gravel bike due to the fact that I mostly ride in some back country trail and I know I am riding my drop bar bike the same way I ride my mountain bike so it suit very well for my style of riding. My only regret is when it come to ride with my road bike friend that are riding like all day is race day so since I have an heavier, less aerodynamic geometry, I have a bad time to following them on a 50km or more ride.
